I love Macy's. Truly, I do.
I visited Flagstaff this weekend for the very first time, accompanied by a close friend who was kind enough to be my tour guide and take me to all the best places in town. After dumping our stuff off at the hotel, we drove down to Macy's, which I have heard him speak about just about as long as I've known him.
The little place was packed with all sorts of people. Living in Phoenix, I'm used to seeing the same sort of people at the same time. Not here. Locals, families, tourists, hippies, students, older couples, dog lovers... they're all at Macy's. Everyone is friendly, including and especially the staff, and just about everyone was smiling.
I was a bit overwhelmed by the two vast menus - one for drinks and one for food. And nevermind the many pastries in the display at the front counter! As we had just eaten lunch not long before, we opted for coffee (and a chocolate macaroon for me) - Chris chose the ever-famous Macy's Special (espresso, hot chocolate, whipped cream) and I went with my stand-by cafe au lait. After paying, we found a table and sat down with our books. My drink was delicious - just the right balance of milk and coffee, but after I tried the Macy's Special, I knew it would be the only thing I would want to order going forward. Very, very tasty!
We returned twice more and both visits were as great as the first. Before heading back to Phoenix, we stopped in for breakfast and coffee. We each ordered the Macy's Special and the yogurt (honey vanilla), granola, and fruit bowls. This was the best breakfast I've had in a very long time. There wasn't much to it - a bowl layered with really delicious, nutty granola, a lightly sweetened yogurt, and fresh fruit (strawberries, bananas, and blueberries), but it was perfect. Usually, Chris devours his food before I've managed to make a dent, but not this time. He remarked I must have loved it because we finished at the same time. Truly, truly wonderful.
I'm already planning my next trip to Flagstaff, and I already know my first stop will be Macy's. I can't wait!
