Gluten-Free Wednesdays Featured

With more and more people discovering allergies to wheat, Macy’s has worked hard to accommodate the gluten-free lifestyle. In addition to some of our already gluten-less salads and soups, you may have noticed that our breakfast and lunch menu now offers a gluten-free bread option for sandwiches and toast.  As for desserts or just a sweet & simple snack to go with your coffee, we have an increasing selection of gluten-free goodies in our pastry case . . . especially on Gluten-Free Wednesdays.






Every Wednesday from now on, along with our regular items, a number of gluten-free pastries will be available to choose from. 


Just to give you an idea of what you might find, here's a list of some of the yummy, gluten-less treats that we have:


DONUTS -- Our donuts are baked, not fried, and made with rice & garbanzo bean flours. Vegan options available.


MUFFINS -- Also made with rice & garbanzo bean flours. I highly recommend the banana walnut muffins. Vegan options available. Note: Our buttermilk and bran muffins are made with regular white and wheat flours. So please make sure to check the sign for the "gluten-free" or "GF" label!


COOKIES -- So many to choose from! Classic chocolate chip, snickerdoodles, sugar cookies, gingerbread & even your favorite Girl Scout cookies: "Thin Mints." Cookies are made with Bob's Red Mill All-Purpose Gluten-Free Flour, oat flour or rice flour. Vegan options available. 


FLOURLESS CHOCOLATE TORT -- This classic French recipe is naturally gluten-free. It's made with only three ingredients: eggs, butter and chocolate. These ingredients are whipped into a rich & decadent chocolate cake, artfully topped with fresh fruit and whipped cream frosting.


Some of your old favorites . . .


BIRDY BARS have always been gluten-free. These healthy bars are made with an assortment of seeds, nuts and dried fruit held together with a mixture of sweet local honey & tahini. These are also dairy-free. Due to the use of honey, we don't consider them vegan.


SIX-LAYER BARS are an old classic here at Macy's. Chocolate, coconut and nuts layered on a graham cracker crust. Our gluten-free graham cracker base is made with rice flour and agave nectar. 


CHEESECAKE can also be made with our gluten-free graham cracker crust. A vegan cheesecake option is also available, made with Tofutti. 


BROWNIES are often available gluten-free, made with Bob's Red Mill All-Purpose Gluten-Free Flour.

These are just a few of the gluten-free options you might find on Gluten-Free Wednesday -- or any day of the week. We are continuing to experiement and seek out new recipes. Please keep checking back for new treats, and ALWAYS REMEMBER TO CHECK THE SIGNS FOR THE "GLUTEN-FREE" OR "GF" LABEL.
